Yes, solar panels should be cleaned regularly to maintain their efficiency, productivity, and effectiveness. Manufacturers recommend cleaning solar panels before summer and winter, and to maintain their limited warranty
Solar panels do not need to be cleaned as frequently as, say, your car. Nevertheless, dirt and debris can collect on the surface of your panels over time. To keep your panels working normally, you should clean them twice per year.
There is no doubt that cleaning your solar panels will increase their overall efficiency. According to many statistical observations, this efficiency and performance improvement can be dramatic, up to 21% in residential arrays and up to 60% in commercial installations.
Cleaning your own solar panels is not something that we recommend.
Solar panels are sturdy, built to withstand the elements, and last for decades. However, they can be seriously damaged if not treated correctly.
Many cleaning products can permanently discolor your solar panels’ finish. They can create a milky film over the panels, which could permanently decrease your production.
Many solar panel manufacturers have specified regular cleaning as a warranty condition. You may not be covered by the warranty if there is no proof of regular cleaning. That’s why regular cleaning is recommended.
